Beach Fishing in The Algarve

Firstly ...what a great site. Being something of a dabbler, over more years than I care to remember both course and sea, there is plenty to keep me going here for weeks.
I digress. I am off to the Algarve on holiday in a couple of weeks time, near Vilamoura. While Mrs Baldeagle is taking in the rays, I will sneak off (with Baldeagle Jnr.) and do a little fishing, on even keener days I may get up early and have the beach to myself (ourselves). I have a telescopic spinning rod and telescopic beach caster with appropriate sized reels.
Any help and tips on tactics tackle and what to fish for would be appreciated. I am thinking of artificial baits, but will be guided.
