Sri Lanka
Hi,
I'm off to Sri Lanka's south-west coast for the first two weeks of April. I'm a converted carp man but looking forward to some spinning and plug action. I'll be near Bentota and I've read about the fishing there.
I've just got my hands on a Shimano Beastmaster STC, the 303. So here are some questions.
What type of plugs etc shall I take?
Will I need wire trace?
And will 18lb line do or is that to light?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and help.

For daytime fishing off the beaches, I would always tend to use wire but it can be replaced with heavy (40 or 50lb) mono or flouro when fishing at night for barramundi and mangrove jacks in the rivers.
Personally, I tend to fish either 14 or 20lb fireline for lure chucking over clean grounf but go up to 25lb mono (or heavier) for fishing the beaches where there are rocks about.
In the daytime, expect a mixed bag including good sized GT's off the beach and concentrate on the barramundi at night at the mouths of rivers - check in daylight to make sure you're not fishing an open sewer.
do pack some leads and small but strong hooks because there is good fishing to be had right in the surf (only 10m out) with bits of prawn, weed or squid for bait.
Do yourself a seach through some of Estuary Perch's posts. Being resident on the island, his stuff should give you a few ideas.
Another source of information is Indianangler.com. Similar conditions and species are to be found so you can transfere a lot of ideas.

Thanks a lot Ken, that's really helpful.
I'll have a look for EP posts as well.
Cheers
