Cassava
John,
In Australia, the Gambia's Cassava is called a Mulloway or Jewfish.

Thanks for those Dai and yes it would be good for a few forum members to get together for a week's fishing ,maybe gambia or possibly Guinea Bissau for somewhere different. Needs someone to sort out a date and see who can come. I was thinking of the Gambia for the fishing festival in October???

Cassava / Mulloway
Hi Dai
Um … superficially they look alike, but I suspect they’re not the same species. If I’ve got it right the Mulloway (Argyrosomus hololepidotus) has a wide distribution from Oz through to east Africa whereas the Cassava (Pseudotolithus senegalensis) is restricted to the coastal waters of west Africa.
The fishbase site is always a good source of information accessing colloquial names. Here’s the url for the Cassava - http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...ary.php?id=432.
Dave
