Brisbane
There's tremendous fishing all the way along the Gold Coast although in April you'll be, I suspect, a tad too early for the runs of Marlin - Striped and Blacks and out deep for the big Blues.
The reef fishing looks spectacular and, certainly a few years ago, they used to target 1000lb plus Tiger Sharks on lightish, 30lb class, tackle.

Hi salmon,
I'm a newey to the site so please be kind.
You should have a ball up there. I am in australia but live quite a thousands of kms from Brisbane. I don't know the seasons that well up that way but I'd guess some monster coral trout for the table would be a fair chance. Add to that a spanish mackeral fight and I'm getting jealous. The weather should be fantastic then as we are in the middle of a hot summer. Hope you get into them, theres always good reports coming from queensland and I'm sure your brother will show you how damn good our aussie fishing is.
Cheers

I've stayed in Brisbane for 3 years and I love that place.
I love Gold Coast even more... Japanese girls... ok.. well well well :P
I didn't do any boat fishing, just went to a pier at Shorncliff, near Sandgate.
I fished for breams, while some fisherman use a balloon to float fish the Sharks

Hi - I've just come across this site about different fish species in Australia. You might find it useful. It has an enormous amount of different species listed.

I was staying in Coomera about an hour south of brisbane on the gold coast for 3 months at the end of last year and just down the road there was an estery i was catching: Flathead, Bream, Mangrove Jacks, Pike Eels, Catfish, Letherjackets, Trivally, Herring, Threadfin, Toadfish, Sting Rays, whiting and Fingermark perch!
And this is all from one mark! they have also had mullet, Hammer head sharks, Bull Sharks, Baracoda, Estery Cod and Jew fish all from this one spot!
You cannot compair the fishing to anything that you will see anywhere else!!
When fishing of the boats you will probabley go for GT's (Giant Trivally) like this:

What we like to call a sizable fish they call bait!!

Wow Steve, that's a BIG Giant Trevally! How much did it weigh? And did it come on bait, or surface popping? A lot of dedicated 'poppers' now tackle fish up to that sort of size on upgraded spin gear - 80lb braid loaded onto reels like the big Shimano Stellas. Real extreme fishing! And puts your 'specimen' pout in a slightly different league.

Sorry i should have said that its not me in the pic. It was just to show what they are like.
I know they are good fun on surface poppers and put up a hell of a fight!
