To all them that tie a fly now and again,........has anybody managed to replicate a convincing body for a Daddy Long Leg's?

This can be a bit fiddly at first but it's worth persevering with.
First get some deer hair and a needle.
Put the needle in your vice.
Place a small amount of deer hair alongside the needle.
Trap the deer hair against the needle with silk and half hitch it.(closest to the vice)
Using a series of half hitches travel away from the vice(looks like a segmented body)
When it's at the required length whip finish.
A little varnish at the knots and along the length helps longevity.
Tye the deer hair section on hook, add legs, wings, hackle and Bobs your uncle.
I'll try and post some photos to give you a better idea.(Remind me if necessary, I won't be offended)
Hope this gives an idea, feel free to ask if you're struggling.

    Good luck
    Bin

I remember watching a really old fly fishing program, where a guy used a floating silicone which he rolled very thinly to create the body, then whipped to the hook. I know its not strickly old ye fly tying, but it looked really realistic.
I dont know if anyone else can shed any light on this?????????

seem to remember something similar , were the guy put copeydex [ not sure about spelling ] glue ,on a sheet of glass then heated it with the soft flame of a blow torch then rolled it to make the body of a mayfly am sure it would work for a daddy

Best method of making daddy bodies I know is to mount a needle in the vice, start the thread as you would any fly then offer up a small bunch of deerhair with the tips facing the vice jaws, wrap the thread round the tips then stroke the remaining hair back towards the jaws, rib with the thread and then whip finish at the end, varnish the whole thing allow to dry then slide off the needle, voila one perfect floaty deer hair daddy body.

Oops, guess i should read all the posts...

Here are some pics showing the tying of daddy bodies

Tying the deer hair onto needle

    Half hitches down the body

    Whip finish at end

Finished body with completed daddy(apart from the legs which I forgot to add

Hope this helps. Post a pic of your finished fly if you can. Always good to see a tidy daddy.

    Bin
