There is a good tackle shop down the front in lyme, the bloke that runs it is really friendly - he should be able to help you out.
(He's down the hill (near the cob) in a tiny shopping arcade/ally along the (tiny)road thats on your right as you get to the bottom.)

yeh that tackle shops called the tackle box. umm in july you should be able to get a fair few species. if you fish off the cannon wall you should get mackeral and gars with macky under a float and under ur feet ledgering will get you plenty of ballans and gobys to rag. the mouth of the harbour should be good for some silver eels and flounder ( under/ by the trawlers probs the best spot for these) If you want a bit more variety if you walk onto monmouth beach ( to the right) you should be able to get dogs huss bigger ballans do macky and rag and maybe a few rockling. theres a reef there tho so maybe some rotten bottoms should help you keep ur gear. hope this helps pb
were going to need a bigger boat

mrs plums and I fished there for a day last summer, prob around september, lovely hot day if i recall,
we were advised by the tackle shop to fish the canon wall, but it looked packed, so we went down on the long arm and onto the rocks at the end, i threw out a few chunks of mackeral and then used float fished rag worm, size ten hooks, with an inch of rag, depth varied with the tide,
put a whole fillet out at distance (again on float as the bottom is stony), but had nowt, also tried the fly rod for about an hour of so, that caught nothing but the attention of about 20 sight see'ers!
the rag on float was pulling in wrasse, one after the other, mrs plums would hand me her rod to unhook the fishy on the end, so i'd hand her mine to hold, by the time i turned aruond with hers rebaited, she'd hand me another, so i'd cast hers.. and so went the story for about 4 hours!! non stop wrasse, mostly small 5-8" fish, but good fun.

For the harbour and if the weather is calm, a carp rod will be ideal for most fishing in the area, I use 9' light spinning rods for summer fishing there; spinning will get mackerel and maybe gar, scad and if you are lucky a bass. Float fish a mackerel strip or half a sandeel for the mackerel or scad. Bottom fishing, I usually leger with an ounce or two of lead and a running leger, size 2 hooks. Ragworm or fish strip as bait, all sorts can be caught from the Canon Wall, I even had a nice sole from a few feet off the wall last year.
