Shore Fishing Books
Don't know if this has been done before??
Over the years I have collected over 30 books on angling, but some are special and are read over and over again.
The style, drama, and sheer excitement that the authors express in these books, encourage me, and others in their quest for that ultimate fish.
Among the library I have, these are the best in my opinion, in no particular order....................
Hooked on Bass

Alan Vaughn Mike Ladle
Lure Fishing a New Approach to Spinning

Mike Ladle Alan Casey
Sea Fishing North Wales and Anglesey

Anthony Pearson
(This book is for sale on the net for £150!)
Successful Shore Fishing

Anthony Pearson
Tope How to Catch Them

Bruce McMillen
Others are...
Tope.
Clive Gammon
Sea Fishing
Clive Gammon
Angling Guide Wales.
Clive Gammon
Salt Water Fishing
Michael Prichard
Others do get an airing from time to time.
Whats your favorite, why, and what do you recommend?

Hi Fester,...Well, When I saw the title I thought, Sea Angling books..Hmmmmmm..
Great Post mate..
I have all of the above books, and they are ALL very good. I have started buying older books now, and recenly bought one dated 1905, its fascinating reading about the writer complaining about "Chaps" netting undersize Bass in the entrance to Weymouth harbour..not a lot changes in angling..
..the book is called Practical Sea Fishing by P.L.Haslope. I have a good few older books, and in total, think I have perhaps 1000 angling books, of which around 800 are Sea Angling...the oldest is I think 1840 ish.,.cos, the next best thing to going fishing, is talking or reading about it..

1000 books
Wow! that is quite impressive!
Got any real good books that the shore angler might need??
I have one book in the attic I think its called 'The Cliff Hangers' about Yorkshire cod anglers fishing from the tops of cliffs over 100' up! Quite an old book (50's I think) but it is damaged quite bad. Nice Cod on 50lb line and broomstick rods. A bit hairy on the edge of them cliffs!!

Hiya,..Well, Thats a sweeping question..

I like John Holdens books, The Beach Fishermans Tackle Guide, and Beach Fishing,..they are both great books.
as for Bass books, John Darlings, Bass Fishing on Shore and Sea, and Mike Thrussel SNR's !!
Fishing for Bass are good reads too.
Older books, Hugh Stoker, Spinning and Trolling for Seafish, F.H.Burgess, A Guide to Shore and Harbour Fishing, Derek Fletcher,Around the Coasts with Rod and Line, and A.R.Harris, Sea Fishing from the Shore, from about 1940..
Also, a superb read is A History of the Fish Hook...and the story of Mustad....its eye opening stuff..

John Darling's Shore Fishing was a very good explanation of the 70s/early 80s beach-fishing scene. A few things have changed since, but the first chapter on the marine environment ought to be compulsory reading

Get that book if you can!

As a relative newcomer to fishing, I've just finished Shore Fishing by John Darling, and learnt a helluva lot.
It's brilliantly written too, the guy had a very dry sense of humour.
Completely off topic I know, but I read his book on air rifle hunting, and that was just as good.
