Thumbs up Whitewater Consultancy Angling Comp

As you may have seen on the Boating, & the S&W Wales Forum, we are holding a Small Boat Angling Festival in Milford Haven on 21/22 June, & we have had enquiries from kayak anglers who wanted to be part of it.
We agreed, but didn't know how to make it fair for some guy on a kayak, to be able to compete with 3 guys in a Warrior165/175 with a 90HP outboard on the back!
Thankfully Whitewater Consultancy who were contemplating a Kayak Angling Comp around the same time, asked if they could throw their hat in the same ring, do all the organising of the kayak event, put up some fabulous prizes for it, & support the same charity we have selected.
They are going to hold their event from Tenby South Beach, on 21/22 June & will have support/rescue boats, stewards, displays, demos etc, & seeing as they are experienced in this field we have breathed a sigh of relief!
We met with them on Tuesday evening & were impressed by the level of expertise at their disposal (even though the building was bloody freezing), so if you are interested in this event, they are going to put it on the Kayaking Forums, contact them if you want to put yourself in a position to win one of their top of the range "Scaffold Planks" (as I christened them), as the individual winner of the 2 day event.

Clearly you are NOT a kayak fisherman!!!

You may be very surprised at the success of "some guy" in a kayak and the success he / she may have compared to the gas guzzling boats you obviously use!.

Kayaks can get over ground even a small boat cannot access and often these are prime fishing grounds!. When you are struggling to mess around with dropping your anchor and finding the right place that won't damage your boat hull, a kayak will have set up in a few minutes!.

Kayaks will not scare / kill / polute and disturb the waters like your boat will and will sit above the fish undetected!. It always makes me laugh at small boat owners struggling with these things over my local reef as I sit there catching fish galore and they start up to "move to a more productive spot" to scare off another area with their 90hp engine!!

I see this all the time and imagine the empty boats returning to the slip because they have to worry about the tide and having to load back on the trailer and re-fill the copious amounts of fuel they have used for a handful of undersized flatties they may have been lucky enough not to have scared off, as I gut my decent catch when I amble back to the beach whenever I wish!!

Not being mean, but it might be worth asking about kayakfishing successes before you make an uninformed comment like that mate!

You would like to take on a team of 3-4 guys in a Warrior, in a 2 day species hunt, in a waterway that is 20kms long, & up to 3 km wide? If the weather is suitable the fishing area could well be up to a 40km radius!
The problem as we saw it, was that the kayaker would be under an impossible handicap to compete on equal terms in THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION, & we considered it unfair to ask them to pay the same entry fee, when they would be "outgunned" 3-4:1.
I dont need the "Propaganda Minister" of the kayak club, to lecture me on the merits of a kayak, & the demerits of the internal combustion engine, & had they been about when I was not averse to getting cold & wet, doubtless I would have had one.
Currently I am interested only in fair play in this single competition, & not the slightest bit interested in your "verbal video" of the benefits of the kayak, florid though they may be.
I & the co-organisers of this competition (some of whom are kayakers) are aware of the rising popularity of them as angling craft, & as such, we were very willing for them to enter, we however were concerned that they would be at a disadvantage in this instance, & we are pleased that Whitewater have removed the need for us to concern ourselves any further!
