Mackems revenge: June 15th
Fish for the pride of your area...........
This one is to be held on Sunday June 15th at Claxheugh on the River Wear. It will be held from 11am until 4pm. A £5 entry fee will be charged per angler and the full proceeds will go to breast cancer research.
This is a team event like the one we held on Steetley pier not long ago. At the moment we have five possible teams, the Mackems, the Geordies, the Poolies, the Smoggies and the Outsiders. More teams are welcome to join in but they must be area based, eg: Darlo's from Darlington and ideally have around four members per team. This will be a measure and release based match.
Get your names down and state which team you would like to fish for on the day:
The Geordies: Jarrow Viking, Bigpaul, Carver, Robz, Robzdad, Chloesdad, Medlar, Flattymaster, Micky, Rambo, Fibbsey
The Mackems: Capt Cod, Mick Cave, Dangler, Colin Green, Fatlad, Wilfy
The Poolies: Dabcatcher, Monkeyhinger, Baza, Whippyzippy, Bob C
The Smoggies: thx kosh
The Outsiders: Jinxed by Jimmy, Twisty
The Rules:
1. One rod and reel to be used at any time.
2. Two hooks maximum.
3. The angler involved must hook and play the fish to the surface unaided, once a fish is on the surface, assistance by other anglers will be allowed.
4. An opposing team member must record your fish on the card provided.
5. The use of edible crab for bait is not allowed.
Scoring. All caught fish per team will be measured by length to the nearest centimetre and then recorded. Eels will be given 30cm regardless of size.
Undersize fish must be returned but you will still be able to claim centimetres for your catch.
The different teams fishing the competition will have their centimetres added up at the end of the comp, the total team centimetres will then be divided by the amount of anglers in each team.
Example: Total centimeters for the Geordies = 50cm, we then divide this amount by the number of Geordies in the team, lets say this is 5 persons. The Geordies score would be 10.
The Venue: Claxheugh, South Hylton, River Wear, Sunderland

Directions: Assuming you are driving on the A19 as you arrive in Wearside take the A183 Chester road into Sunderland, at the first roundabout you come to take a left onto Hylton road, carry on for roughly 1 mile and on your left again take Hylton bank road, carry on down until you pass South Hylton metro station then take a right onto Pottery lane and follow until you come to the River Wear, this is Claxheugh. The parking symbol next to Weardale way on the map is where you want to be.
