Beach Fishing

<font color='#000000'>Im going to work in Burnham.On.Sea for a few weeks,
what i need to know is.
Will i get away with using my Carp gear( rod, reel,12/15LB line) fishing off the beach?
Do i need grip leads,or will rollers and flat be ample?
Best times to fish(low water or high). Best baits..

Any help will be much appreciated</font>

<font color='#000000'>I use carp rods for float fishing and they have worked well. I think you could use them for light beach fishing, but I don&#39;t think they would be very good using 6oz grip leads as can be needed in strong currents.

So, I think it would depend on local conditions and the style of fishing you are going to do.</font>

<font color='#000000'>Try getting in touch with the people at Veals in Bristol. They have a lot of Bris Channel experts who will clue you up.
As far as I can remember Burnham is where the River Axe enters the Channel and there is a sort of sea wall along the front. Just up the road are the Berrow Flats. I suspect your gear will be fine for close range bass/flats/eels with rag/lug/peeler as bait. Take a few leads of different weights with and without wires and you should have some fun.
Sorry I can&#39;t be specific about marks but I&#39;ve only been there once for about half an hour.

<font color='#000000'>I use carp rods all the time with few problems. I use 10lb line an a tapered shock leader. This is ideal for catching flatties and bass - both feed very close in. Best hooks for flatties are size 2 to 4, try a running ledger with rag and small strip of mackeral / herring on the tip. The fish gives scent and stops fish sucking the worm from the hook. Bass easily taken on ragworm and peeler crab. You can have great sport with the bass. Also try spinning, 28g abu tobys work well or double jointed rapala plugs. Fish these close in, best used at first light on river mouths, harbours etc. Also try float fishing red gill rubber sand eels for bass. Fish on incoming tides close in in the fastest currents.</font>
