Kalgan River Mulloway
House boat on the Kalgan River (Albany, WA) friday & saturday night. Beatiful spot; with a few fish there too. Rocked up on Friday to find out the next couple of days were hosting the Albany Bream Tournament. Was going to be fun trying to navigate a house sized caravan through these boats to get to the fishy snags.
All went with out a hitch. Even managed a couple of small mulloway. Not the big beach croakers we chase in Hopey, but never mind; some of the finest eating fish there is.....
Species caught, black bream, flounder, mulloway, salmon, yellowtail (became bait), herring, leather jacket, shovel nosed shark, unidentified ray, massive eagle ray.
The eagle ray was caught on my mates rod & we estimate it to have been easy 70kg. 40 mins he was hooked up for. Snapped it off (luckily) when it got close to the boat. We get them off the beach & its a lot easier landing them with a swell to push them onto the sand. Nightmare on a boat with no current in the river. Very little flow, mostly tidal.
Awesome weekend. 50 bottles beer, 6 bottles wine & a bottle of tequila. Nobody fell in too. IncredibleGood things come to those who bait......

I targeted jewies around Gosford, never caught one, you reckon the west cost is better for fishing than the east?

The fishings pretty awesome on both coasts. Big difference I guess is the west coast doesnt have as much fishing pressure on it. Just like everywhere, you still have blanks but. I just got back from 6 hrs standing on a beach with no fish to show for it. Not all bad though; had plenty of time to smash down the brews......

Nah, not from Perth but from Cornwall. Been over here since 2002. Lived in Perth for a few years though before moving to the south coast to plunder the minerals n fish down this way.
