Ive got a week off, where do I go?
I think Im flying to the UK on or around 3rd July and am heading back to Spain on 17th roughly.
I've got a weeks ticket away from the wife between and have thought about Norway but have never been before and dont want to go alone.
How about The Gambia? I'm sure Assan, Tom and Smiler would love my company and I have been on my own before, although I didnt love it as such as the fishing was not extraordinary, whats the fishing like in July, beach and boat???
Or has anyone got any suggestions but I would prefer to stay in the same time frame as Spain/Uk and dont want jetlag. Also this is a cheapy for me and I dont want to spend a fortune this trip doing some of the other more expensive African countries.

Options?
Blimey John, you seem to have more fishing holidays than hot dinners! Obviously a VERY understanding wife.
You're in that period just before the bulk of the UK school kids' summer holidays so might well be able to pick up a deal.
Have you perhaps considered Sal in the Cape Verde Islands? Several charter companies run trips down there and there's an Italian guy - owns a tackle shop - who organises shore fishing trips - a couple and you should be able to establish your bearings - and jigging for species like Amberjack from a small boat. He also has a larger boat that he may, rather than as a sole charter, put together a group of individuals. There you could target Blue Marlin, YFT and Wahoo. I'm sure I've previously posted a note of his web site's url.
Alternatively how about some shore Bass & Pollack fishing? Either in the UK - Pembrokeshire, Dorset, Channel Islands or North Cornwall - or the west coast of Ireland. Certainly from the latter two (three?) areas there are shore guides that you could hire, at least for a couple of days. Or perhaps there'd be individuals on here that could assist?
Don't really know about Norway although I'll be there just before you on what's essentially a family holiday. No fishing, um ... perhaps I may be able to sneak a travel rod in?

Thank you Dave, I'll certainly have another look at Sal in the Cape Verde Islands and see if the prices are right. A boat for a week might put it out of my price range, even if sharing, for this trip as I've promised myself a cheapie and the Gambia from the beach fits that bill, there cant be a cheaper foreign fishing holiday.
MMmm fishing in Britain, blimy havent done that for many years, scary!!! Worth a thought though but its so dodgy with the weather and seas and I dont want to waste a week.
I'll also ask the question again about beach fishing in The Gambia (On the Africa forum) and see what happens there, John.
P.S. Best of luck on your Norway hols and take a 5 piece under your arm, the wife wont see it!!!2008 x 58

Helo Dai,
know what yer mean!
I'll put up the report of the sharks (Namibia) up over the next couple of days.
Norman from http://www.seaanglingnews.co.uk has agreed to publish the article in a future edition of his brilliant paper, even though he has just done a piece himself and was out in Namibia a week or so before me.
Thanks, John Beachcomber.
P.S. Am awaiting quotes from travel agents for Gambia and Cape Verde as I write, I know I've been a Billy no mates recently but its getting worse, started checking the persperation marks under my arms!!!!..............2008 x 58
