Chalk Springs (First fly fishing trip this year)
Awoken at 4am this morning to the sound of rain battering against the window and thought i was meant to be going fishing in this !!!
Promised to take my mate to Chalk springs fishery in Arundel west sussex for a days fishing for his 40th.
Something must be going right for me as on the way down the rain seemed to stop just a slight breeze and overcast, what more could i ask!
First cast and straight in for a lovely little fight with a 2.5lb rainbow i couldnt believe my luck.As i was unhooking my mate was also in(This was going too well!!!!)
People around us seemed to be trying but not too much coming out but we seemed to be getting a take with every cast i think i lost more than i actually caught .i started getting excited as i saw a double figure brown sitting in the margins and when i cast to it it turned and started following i thought this is it then out of nowhere like a rocket a small 2lb rainbow smashed into the fly and must of leapt about 2foot clear of the water!! i was actually gutted from getting a take
It just seemed non stop but everyone else seemed to be having an 'alright day my mate and i were bagging up by 12.30 we had had our 5 fish each limit with the majority about 2.5lb and the biggest just over 4lb .we thought what the hell and went and got another ticket but it didnt take long to get another couple of fish each even though we were targetting specific fish it was hard work keeping the 'smaller'ones off
All in all a very good days fishing even though i dont like trout so friends and family were more than happy with there fish supper
Tight lines
Sorry ther is no pics but totally forgot to take any!!!

Harry
I was fishing all over the place having a good wander around and i seemed to be catching with flys that had anything green in them. They didnt seem fussy for me.I must admit i did catch most of the fish into the wind as i found a corner where obvoiously all the 'food'was being blown to.but i was watching a so called shoal of trout patrolling which came past every 5 mins or so and if i could cast amongst them and retrieve very quickly there seemed to be a mad scramble to get to the fly first so all inhibitions were lost(first to the fly took it!)

I'm not suprised that you caught most fish into the wind Jason. This is where a lot of food will accumulate although the increase of oxygen will also be a major part of the reason. I remember fishing a local reservoir one early spring, when the wind was so strong that there was a white "froth" being blown onto the shore. There was obviously a very large shoal lurking just past the margins about 3 or 4 metres past my "average" cast. I had only been fly fishing a few times then and didn't have the technique to cast very good. I did get a few fish (I think I had about 6 or 8) but my mate and also another bunch of guys bagged up and I do mean bagged up. I think they had something like 30or 40 fish each (released)! Ive never seen anything like it since. It was a fantastic scenario and my mate took most of his on bright pink lures! I broke the tip off my rod trying to cast that bit further with brute strength when the line flicked the tip!
