derby grayling?

im going to go to the river derwent at some point this year for grayling any particuler areas and methods that would work best?

Good luck, I have fished the Derwent ( Peacock Hotel waters ) many times, and when asking about Grayling fishing you would think I was asking to deflower their first born daughter... When you find some were, heavy nymphs on the point, black wet smut type fly just above works for me, I know the 3 nymph rule works, but this works for me.

I might be totally wrong! But i think a stoats tail fly is good for grayling? If not maggots and worms on float trotted down the river>

I agree shouldnt say this in this section, but it will outfish fly many times over, unless someone wants to disagree?

If not your cup of tea, most forms of czech nymph fished slowly almost bouncing it along the bottom will work.

This style i believe (not the worlds greatest fluff chucker) is better suited to fishing close in, in the deeper runs.
Keep the rod up to allow the nymph to trundle along bouncing over the stones.
Fishing rod down or at any distance will soon snag your hook on the bottom due to the heavy nature of the fly.

So any deep areas ie millpools, behind boulders, or undercut banks ect are worth exploring, stike every time the line stops (be realistic about this) or moves unexplainably.

Grayling or really strong fish!!

Pink shrimp works on the derwentMatlock area,.go there every year with grayling society.if you can go upto bakewell and fish there river,about 40 notes per day from pub near river[should still be the same]some belting grayling there,big browns and totally wild rainbows as it has its own breeding stock.
Matlock area is fairly good for grayling,bug or dry,search behind the old weir stones,good holes and some nice riffles.some stretches are bait bashed so a good maggot fly works well.
