    Anyone with any Suriname experience?

    Hi,

Still tossing around ideas for next year...

Does anyone here have experience of the freshwater fishing opportunities in Suriname?

I have been speaking with Kabalebo lodge and got some details from there. I wondered if there are any other places people know of?

    Hi fishiee29
'Fraid not. But what an incredible place! I dread to think how much those red-tailed Cats would cost to buy in the UK.

Is it definitely Suriname you're targeting? Or is it particular species, or rain forest areas in South America?

Yesterday, over an egg 'nd bacon sarnie in a local tackle shop - on the Marsh Farm complex near Godalming - I was talking to a chap whose wife's Columbian. He was talking about a lake he'd fished in Central Columbia that contained, amongst other species, huge Cats and Arawana. Certainly no where near as exotic or remote but I'll try and get some details next time I bump into him and post them. That might be a possible alternative?

You'll have to keep us updated though as your plans develop. Sound absolutely fascinating.
    Dave
PS Not quite your league but, after the sarnie, I managed a PB Crucian, 3lb 2oz plus 10 Tench, best 7lb 4oz.

    Hi Dave,

Just looking for somewhere new with great fishing and the rainforest areas of south america would be a pretty decent change from Africa me thinks. The cats in Suriname sound pretty special and as south america goes it's one of the better value and less explored regions. I know quite a bit about Kabalebo now but was wondering if anyone knew of other places in the country.

I'm really keen on the wildlife as well as the fishing

I don't often catch big stuff in the UK. Sticking mostly to very local small unfished waters (15 mins drive is quite a trip away for me!). Generally small drains and the local river. You beat my PB for both species after that sarnie
