morning at boringwheel Nutley
Thought i would get the trout gear out and went off to Boringwheel fishery in Nutley, arrived at 9.30am, everything was wrong, clear sky, very warm, and no wind, however punted out and set up 30yds from boat stages and there were some good rises showing, sat there and watched and noticed that there were a few fry being chased around, so on with a small white and gold leaded lure and made a few fast retrievs, a couple of takes, after 10 mins changed to a small leaded daddy yellow body and bang immediate take and first fish in the boat, rainbow around 2lb, slight breeze got up and now drawing across the wake that the breeze was creating, another rainbow about 2.75lb, carried on with same tactices and another rainbow about 3.5lb, by 1pm caught my fourth fish and had got my limit - excellent morning in difficult conditions, rapid small but snatchy pulls seemed to be the best way, water very coloured.
Two other anglers on the bank landed 2 whilst i was there, they nearly lost one when a rook decided to try and fly off with there catch, funny thing to see when the angler ran after his catch!!!
Disssapointing to see that dishonest anglers are flouting the fishery rules - complete losers, you will spoil it for us honest anglers, why take the **** out of a fantastic lake that offers so much and ran by a caring family who are trying to offer something unique to the flyfishing fraternity - clear off and go somewhere else - have you not noticed that the prices have not increased in at least 5 years - what more can you ask for !!!!!!!
tight lines
Steve.

Steve, it's the same almost everywhere you go.
Some people think that going fishing is the same as going to the fishmonger and presume that at least their going to catch and are very upset if they don't catch their limit.
Tidy session, by the way.Team Eel -- Assistant deputy Captain

i have been going to this fishery for over 10 years now and i struggle to match the tranquility and the sport any where else apart from dever etc, you are right though it is amazing how many fisherman leave stupid comments in the book if they blanked - in my eyes give up or try harder!!

Top water
Hugh , as you come up the A22 before just before Nutley village look for Cackle street on the right.Follow cackle street down the bottom of the hill and the drive way is on the left on bend.Lovely fishery ,fish from the bank or punt (about 6 of them free of charge).Ticket prices ?? havnt been down for a good few months ,no catch and release ,2 fish half day ticket upwards ,cant remember the exact price but only average isnt expensive.

Hi Hugh,
directions as per seadonkeys reply, an evening 2 fish ticket is £20, a four fish ticket is £30, etc upto an 8 fish ticket at £50.
Fantastic place as i have said previously, if you go Hugh try a floating line with a leaded nymph or tin head of some description, always does well for me, really excellent fun and some good trout to be caught both rainbow and brownies, an angler caught a 4lb tench on fly - can be hard at times but a twitchy slow retrieve can be deadly,my photo is on the wall in the cabin - rainbow just shy of 10lb.
Stocked from Roger Daltry's lakedown on a regular basis and i have never caught a stocky below 1.5lb always a good average, you can hire rods there as well, could meet you there on a Monday if you fancied having a go.
They have there own website - worth a look
Steve.

thanks Ian, pretty sure i know where it is, though i've not been down that lane for a good few years!
Steve, that'd be great, i can often do mondays (money permitting) so would love to fish with ya, you can cast a more experienced eye on my unexperienced casting, also a little unsure about leader/tippet length, i usually fish with just a 4-5ft 6 or 10lb flouro from the loop to the fly! struggle casting much more than that, especially with a heavier fly!
I have my own rods, a lovely little 5# loomis built for my by Stan M, and an 8# cheapy, both are saltwater rods but get used more often down on the river uck! also have a nice -I think- selection of wets, drys, gold heads, lures, nymphs, klinkhammers etc, so hopefully something in there that'll catch!
had a quick bash today with the loomis down a little spot on the Uck, 1st time i've used it in a while, only had the one fish in about 45 mins trying, a nice little 8oz chub! have had carp to 3lb, chub to 2lb, dace, roach, rudd, gudgeon and more down there!
do they do lessons down there? thought it might be nice as something for mrs plums and I to do, need to get her out more and fly fishing is just so much cleaner and lighter!
cheers.

Hi hugh
yes no problem. i can give you a few pointers myself, i am self taught and never had a lesson, all down to the wrist!!
Got to the point that i can nearly cast all my fly line now.
I will contact Ursela who owns the fishery and find out about the lessons for you, i know there are contacts with the angling centre in East Grinstead if i remember right who could meet you and run some lessons.
I will get back to you about this. let me know when you are thinking off going and i will meet you there.
Steve.
