I have had a few Salmon on the green and yellow floating Minnows 2inch, just fish a barrel lead with them set in at the depth you think the fish may be lying, always had problems with weighted minnows as they either work too high, too fast or too low and get snagged easily, floating minnows popped up off the lead can be gently bounced down through nice steady glides, tasty!, red and purple are good colours too.

I get asked this question on a regular basis but it's not easy to answer. People assume that because I've fished for salmon for 50 years and I sell minnows, I know all the answers.
Without details of where, when and how someone fishes and especially without details of river conditions, it can be pure guesswork. It also depends on the experience and skill of the person asking.
My own experiences are based on the rivers I fish and my own preferences. I would always suggest asking other, more experienced anglers on the river/rivers one fishes.
Obviously I have access to a wide selection of colours and sizes of minnow, both floating and sinking so I have a wide selection in my tackle box. A lot of it is down to personal preference and I know one or two anglers who fish only Black/Gold minnows, to quote an example.
I've always believed that bankside help is the best way to establish what best for one.
