Reel Maintenance

Um ... I wonder how many of us bother?

In another forum I moderate there's an American guy, Alan Tanti, who regularly posts comprehensive, well illustrated instructions on reel maintenance on many of the regularly used game fishing models. This url - http://www.big-game-board.info/reels.html - will take you into the section which, when I last checked ran to over 2 pages worth of threads.

Just wandering around the Net and found Alan's site itself - http://alantani.com/. It's a tad more comprehensive in terms of the number of model maintenance instructions than that original link I posted.

And, if you look, there's an interesting debate referred to regards greasing Avets - you'll quickly work out that Alan's a fan of GREASE.

My Penn International 50W has been serviced once it 20 years and is still going strong, must be due another service soon.

Always service mine on return- as I tend to do silly stuff like walk in chest deep in water and cast out from there or draw a lure in.......water gets in the reel and sand too-Have totake apart, wash and lub all parts. My reels are not that expensive- but I like em to work well and am too lazy to transfer braid from one spool to another!
