Sorry i know nothing of fly fishing.
But when i was carp fishing,I used to do topping using pedigree chum mixer biscuits. They always worked for me.

Hi Steve,
Chub will take buzzers sub-surface and you can catch carp on many deer hair/muddler-style flies, made to make a bit of a wake in the surface film. In my experience when I've tried for carp, albeit in the height of summer when they are used to surface feeding, they like bright, spangly/fritzy flies, especially orange ones! They ain't actually too fussy. Also heard of the dog biscuit trick - you can hacksaw a line round the circumference of the biccie and glue the line round it or just press a hook into it, where it won't be detected, perhaps on top, but obvioulsy it's hard to know which way up it'll land! They will also go for trad wet flies, such as butchers, zulus, etc. Cast to where you can still see the fly and be quick - they spit furry flies out like lightning!

I got some Fluffy eggs of lureflash(careful some are weighted) a few years ago.Hav'nt tried them for carp but i would of thought they would work a treat in the summer on the surface,having said that i fished a trout fishery with a mate 1 freezing cold new years day and he took a 12lb common on a white lure(that put a bend in the rod).For chubb being a bit of a predator how about epoxy minnows, may bag a perch or jack as well.

Worth trying a floating daddy long legs pattern later on in the season, esecially where there is a wind coming off areas of long grass and into the water.
In my opinion carp arent that fond of flies more larvae and grubs, so as mentioned its best trying to fool them with fly that resembles a dog biscuit, however on a few waters i fish for a few months in the summer, the carp turn on to fry feeding, they are virtually impossible to catch on conventional carp tactics and therefore a fry pattern could potentially be devastating.

You can spin natural deer hair but it must be densely packed and then trim it down to look like a mixer. The advantage here is it's almost a perfect colour match. The guy who owns the pallatrax company(simon pomeroy?) use a cork pop up ball which he glues to a strong carp hook and then dips it in a fruity dip/glug before casting to fish. I think he may have been filmed doing it for one of the matt hayes total fishing 2006 series(could be wrong though). Hope this helps!

Do you tie your own flies? If so a black beetle tied with bucktail is a winner for chub, splash it down in front(or to the side) of a group of chub and they will not resist as it slowly sinks!

Carp will take them too, but deliver with a plop..........
