    Mexico

GREETINGS ALL, I am trying to get some info on small boat fishing for my son. He will be driving up the Pacific coast in 3 weeks from Acapulco to Mazatlan. I know there is charter fishing further north, but know nothing about this area. Any help welcome. BECKS

Unfortunately I can't give you any up to-date information on Mazatlan but there used to be, and I'm sure still are, a number of pangas and 'super' pangas operating from there. (That's in addition to a number of reasonably-priced local game boats. They seem to charge any where between 250 and 400$US, based on size.)

Whilst the pangas will normally fish, light tackle trolling with artificials or livebaits, at the back of the surfline the super pangas will range offshore. Offshore, when your son's there, there will still be a run of Sailfish and Striped Marlin, although it's too early for Blues and Blacks. Smaller Yellowfin Tuna will also show up together with Dorado. Inshore I guess he'd be looking at the smaller tuna species and things like Snapper and possibly Roosterfish - although reports I've read suggest that Roosters tend to be around in greater numbers during the late Spring/early Summer.
