Going around the world next spring... Where to fish?
Hi all,
I am a college student in Wisconsin, USA and am going to be doing a study abroad program called semester at sea next spring semester (2010). I have never done any fishing outside the midwest so I am really excited to get a chance to try around the world.
Here are the ports that we will be visiting and the dates:
Yohohama/Kobe, Japan Feb. 9
Shanghai, China Feb. 16
Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam Feb. 26
Chennai/Chochin, India March 11
Port Louis, Mauritius March 23
Cape Town, South Africa April 1
Salvador, Brazil April 16
San Juan, Puerto Rico April 29
Where should I fish and how?
I am planning on doing one or two charter day trips as I have always wanted to go deep sea fishing and I figure I will be able to do it for cheaper in some of these countries than off the US coast (Is this true?). I should be able to find at least 4 or 5 other people interested to go. So, where do you guys recommend I do this based on price and ability to catch exotic/big fish and make my friends real jealous lol. About how much will it run per person and in which location can I get the best deal (none of the websites I found list prices)?
Also, what do you guys think about bringing my own pole and doing some shore fishing around these ports. Are there strict fishing license regulations in these countries? Do the fish over there bite on spinners and twister tails? Are there live bait shops at these locations or is most of the fishing subsistence based?
I know I have a lot of questions hah but any help is greatly appreciated.

i dont think there will be much formally available in India unless you go Mahseer fishing in the rivers in Kerala. Cochin doesnt have that much going on so it may be worth a day or two detour. You could arrange a local fishing boat but you would need your own tackle.
Cape town and Puerto RIco might be the best bet. You could also try posting this on the www.big-game-board.info website.
