    Question Joining rope

Hello all, I just purchased another 200m of 12mm braided rope to join to my current similar anchor rope.Rather than getting it braided would a fishermans knot suffice for joining the two?.
I am using a 10kg plough and 30ft of chain and lifting by alderney ring method and since the shackle to the chain runs through the ring ok,I presume a knot would pass easily as well. Thx.

It depends how the braid is laid, if it is hollow it could be quite easy to splice a small soft eye/loop on each end and shackle the two with one of those low-profile shackles you fasten with an allen key - thats what I have done with my two anchor ropes. Those shackles don't have sticky-out bits to snag. However I couldn't afford braid so I spliced loops in 3-strand!

What type of braid is it, 8 Plait, cored braid or braid on braid?

Thanks, that is an excellent site for knots. Does anyone know where to go to find out how to splice the various braids?

Thx guys for the quick replies.
The fact that with salars shackle method I can join on my extra rope when I need it is very advantagous and thats how I will probably do it.
My original 200m covers many of my anchoring marks.
Luton roy- that is a really good knots site - best i have seen.
    ty ty ty.
