Blankerman - there's a little bit of fishing info on Byron at the top of this site. It mentions a few specific marks in Byron which might give you a few starting points and the name of the local tackle shop.

From what I remember I don't think it's fantastically exciting in the immediate area, although it depends a lot on where you go. From memory I think there are some pretty good rock ledges a (Ozzie) short drive away... Surf can be legendary. 10-12ft walls peeling for 100s of yds off the point when I was there although I didn't have the courage to go in due to the fact that there must have been over 500 guys out!!!

Byron Bay
To illustrate some of the marks mentioned in that link to the fishing report site I previously posted Tallows Beach is the long straight beach on the left of the picture, the headland with the lighthouse is Cape Byron - the most easterly point of the Australian continent - it used to be populated by wild goats when I was last there many years ago but I think they may now have culled or relocated them all, Cosy Corner is the point between it and Tallows. Clarks Beach is the third curved beach on the right after you go round the headland (the first small one is Little Wategos, the second is Wategos). Clarks Beach then runs into Main Beach near the town centre. Main Beach then in turn becomes Belongil Beach on the far right of the picture. Broken Head is about four miles south of Byron (to the left out of picture). Tallow Creek Lagoon is a lttle further south running along the beach a little out of picture. I don't know exactly where the Chair, Stepping Stones, Bream Hole or Honeysuckle Hill are.Last edited by lucky; 17-05-2006 at 18:26.
