Help!!..Volvo/Archimedes Penta o/b
Hi.
I really hope someone can help me here. I've aquired a 1973? Volvo Penta outboard. It didn't pump water but otherwise is in mint cond. It seems it's impossible to get a workshop manual for this engine, so I'm working 'blind'.
I've removed the lower leg and opened the pump casing. I've sourced new impellers and seals.
My probelm is this; From the top of the pump casing runs an offset 10mm copper pipe. This is approx 30cm in length (I'm trying my best in metric)!! It would appear (looking up inside the upper leg) to connect to the water jacket for the engine.
I can't make this connection properly without disconnecting the upper leg. So, I've removed the 4 nuts but the section seems to be stuck at the lower end of the steering tube...some sort of large rubber bush? Just won't slide off!
How the heck do I free this? Is it brute force and do I have to wreck this rubber bush? Seems excessive just to replace impeller/seals.
Any help at all would be most welcome!!!!
Regards

Slide a thin bladed screwdriver between the rubber and metal, dribble a bit of fairy liquid down the gap, wiggle the sdrewdriver blade sideways, bit more fairy......till you get all round it. It will slide off then.

if by chance you can get a manual for a Crescent they are the same unit.
We bought a new VP 350 3 cylinder o/b during the 70s and ran it for years-never had a problem with it.

Thanks very much to those who replied to my post. I've got the upper leg off now (fairy)! and can see in needs a new seal where the copper pipe goes into the block. Should be able to get one from a seal supplier? Once I've got that fitted I'll rebuild and hopefully get out and fish!!!!. Thanks again

When you reassemble a spot of fairy will ease the way for the seals going back.

Be a bit careful!
With all these "fairy's" about, & the "makes the entry easier" innuendos, be careful we dont get known as the Gay WSF, luv!

Volvo Archimedes 6HP outboard
I have a Volvo Archimedes outboard that is 6hp. I think it is a VP60 or VP70 it runs but overheats (stalls). The water appears not to be pumping through it as there is only exhorts gasses expelling from the outlet on the upper leg, some times spits when revved. However the engine stops after a short while at idle expect it might be over heating (but head is not to hot to touch). I took the foot apart to found water in the gearbox but no corrosion so cleared out with diesel and re-sealed the gear box, there was a seal missing (no renewed). The impeller looked new as do the seals. I suspect that the water jacket in the head must be block how can I clear this? I tried engine flush did not seamed to help. If I use an air hose it appear to blow through, but could it be escaping from some where else? Does anyone have a manual or advice on how to clear it out. I want to use it in salt water, will this be ok if I fit a anode? And finally how much oil to you put in the gear box. I found it hard to fill so I took it part and filled it do the gear was immersed.
