Jamie,
If you go to the Bay of Islands Gamefishing Club in Paihia, there's a guy who works in there who was very helpful in terms of providing info on where to go and when, but I'm afraid I can't remember his name off the top of my head... August whould be good for some big kingies though. Are you going to do shore or boat fishing?

Jamie,
December should be even better - there will be lots more kingfish around then. Lionel will no infinitely more than me about that I'm guessing though! If the people you're going with have got a boat, you shouldn't have any trouble getting into some kingies. Im v jealous! Have a look at www.fishing.net.nz for info and the forum section is full of guys who may be able to help. There are a couple of awesome points for rock-fishing in that area if you're feeling adventurous as well...

Jamie,
Yes I am a charter operator, but was trying to help you locate some fish, you won't have to much trouble as you are going to be fishing a very good area
good luck mate
