Hi Glas
Try http://www.nautequipe.co.uk/
Basic 1.0m fibreglass antenna with adjustable base £19.00....
The Silva S10 is probably one of the cheapest dsc fixed units around, but like you say approx £100, but at what cost safety!Last edited by JeremyFisher; 04-03-2006 at 08:57.

Dan,
I have an XM DSC (*The basic model) and a 4ft ariel. Can receive Liverpool coastguard off Ardrossan. Have spoken to Ardrossan from Carradale (with Arran in between!).
Can't fault it.

It is worth saving for a good set rather than risk a cheap second hand one. You don't want it to fail when you are doing a Mayday or Pan Pan! Most people don't upgrade VHF sets, they just replace them when they get old and dodgy. That is why I wouldn't buy secondhand. I have a Nasa set, cheap but good enough. It was £100 less online than in the shops (that was then...cheaper now)

Hiya,
I gotta agree with Salar, when it comes to safety don't buy second hand Radio's, Flares or Lifejackets. When it comes to these buy the best you can afford."ID geek "
