<font color='#000000'>I have decided to spin for bass this year, only trouble is I need advice on tackle. What rod/reel ETC &nbsp;I want to cast into surf or around rocky outcrops. i would also like info on bait rods to use with razor and sand eel ETC. Any advice appreciated.

<font color='#000000'>Any decent spinning rod of between 9 -11 feet should do. Casting weight should be around 10-50 grammes. All the big names make suitable rods these days but if you want bargains look at the Ron Thompson range. Reels should hold around 200 yds of 10 lb mono. Again, lots of good ones out there but try and make sure the reel is saltwater proof. I&#39;ll not name names (Okuma&#33; - bless you) but the drag washers jammed solid in one reel I owned after normal use. If you&#39;re rich go for a Shimano - gorgeous reels.

Surf rods? Carp rods are fine if its calm casting up to a couple of ounces with baits. Beyond that lots of specialist bass rods on the market. Daiwa, Greys, Shakespeare etc all do them. But try and get a look and feel of any model you&#39;re interested in. Some are surprisingly heavy and stiff being more like a standard beachcaster. Nowhere near as nice to use especially if you intend to fish standing in the surf.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I&#39;ve been doing a lot of "surfin" the last few days and was thinking of going for a 11ft rod with a 1-3oz castig range, and use it for both spin and bait as i want to travel light. I&#39;m also gonna give the fly a try. Beachcasting is fun, but you are idle for long periods and if you like to work at your fishing spinning & fly are the way to go, not forgetting the sporting aspect.

I have used an Ed Schliffke Rock Hopper Bass Plugger for several years it cost me £75 and I use a cheap fixed spool reel loaded with 18lb braid its the best spinning combo Ive used and I use the same combo in the esturies for flounder and bait fishin for Bass. Only casts 2oz tho.

<font color='#000000'>i use a 9 1/2 ft rod coupled with an okuma reel. 12 lb mono, for my spinning. and also use this setup fr bouncing worms along the bottom with a light lead. ive done a bit of fly fishing in the sea with not much results yet, but ill be getting a larger rod this summer so hopefully will get more distance an catch more bass. Harris angling has been a god send to me for lures and my other bits and bobs. tight lines ross</font>

Check out this months Sea Angler. One of the big adverts (can&#39;t remember who) has a section with Shakespeare Odessa Flattie rods (11 ft 1-3 ozs) reduced to 36 quid. They seem to be excellent rods and a bargain at this price. If I had the cash spare I&#39;d get one right now for my mid/heavy lure fishing. Perhaps someone else can confirm whether they&#39;re any good or not as I&#39;ve only waggled one around in a shop.
