Fishing in Turkey Help!
Can anyone out there help. Of to Bodrom in 10 days time, and I plan to take a tele rod. Has anybody fished this area? I plan to take various lures and floats ect. I've played around with a hand line before in turkey useing mainly fresh water styles bread for bait and so on with mixed results! Has anybody got any tips? We are actulay staying in Gumbet and I aim to be fishing mainley from the shore.

Hi mate
just got back this morning from the Fethiye/ olu deniz area of Turkey...minus one travel boat rod! My son was fishing with his mate from the beach, using his 4 piece ugly stik travel rod 30lb class. Using 20lb line and a 50lb rubbing leader we managed to break the rod before the line gave out on the snags....( at least I know my leader knots are ok lol).
The most common species to go after would be bream and bass. There were plenty of crabs to go after for the bbq, (giving theirselves up for luncheon meat), and if we had sold the octopus we caught it would have paid for the trip!
Didnt notice many mackeral jumping last week....mind you it was still only 30 degrees, so not warmed up yet! lol
From past experience boat trips would probably give you the best results or maybe float fishing from harbour walls, and spinning is always worth a go. A quick look up the local fish market should give you an idea of what can be caught and the locals are worth copying.
Hope it helps mate, have a good trip
