    Shore Fishing Alicante (Spain)

    Hi all,

I'm off to Alicante on the Costa Blanca in a few weeks, anyone got tips on hotspots or best techniques?? I saw Gary's website (very good it is too!) but I was looking for something more specific! I know there is a breakwater in Alicante (Google earth) - can you fish it??? Also, is this permit thing really strict or what?

    thanks!

    hi grazza

its the police that check up on the liscences over here
id try to find yourself a quite rock mark and you will probly find the fishing alot better than a breakwater over here you cant cast far at the breakwaters over here cause there is so much boat traffic at them

    tight lines gary
im gonna get you cody, cody cod

if you see someone without a smile give them one of your own

fishing inside the harbours is banned here, although there are sometimes a couple of old boys fishing from the piers inside alicante port. its the guardia civil seprona branch that check on licences, if they take a dislike to you the set fine is 300€ and confiscation of your gear.
licences are easy to get, there is a fisheries office in alicante itself, but any of the savings banks( called caixas) will do one for you.
it costs just over 7€ a year, they will give you a "justificante" a yellow piece of paper, which means you can fish immediatly, the licences arrive back at the bank about a week after.
if your back home by then..... no worries, the justificante is valid.
    cheers dave.

How do you go about getting a license thru the bank? What documents do you need?

hi bil, the banks to look for have the word "caixa" in their title (caixa altea or caixa rural for example)they are the equivilent of building societies in the uk.
normally you just need to take your passport and the money, although its not a bad idea to take a couple of passport type photos(white background)in case they want to attatch one to the application form etc!my licence doesnt carry a photo, but thats not to say the ones that are being issued now dont!!!
the licences are for one or three years.if you have problems finding a suitable bank the fisheries office is in alicante itself...
SERVICIOS TERRITORIALES DE MEDIO AMBIENTE ALICANTE,
    CALLE PROFESOR MANUEL SALA S/N.
you could give the address to a taxi driver to take you there,
all you need to ask for is a "permisso de pesca"easy to remember and say!!
    cheers dave.

Thanks for that Dave, that's a great help. I'm hoping to move to the Cadiz area next year, (the earlier the better) and I thougt I would take up fishing. It's been a long time since I river fished as a lad, so I will be starting over anew. Lots to learn, but I shall have a lot of fun with it.

I'm still at the learning stage with Spanish, (and probably will be for the forseeable future.), but I think I can just about manage. If I have any problems, I'll give you a yell.

One of my favourite learning aids is El Jueves, and I hack my way thru it with a dictionary in the other hand like an amateur golfer sending divots every which way. I grade my improvement in the language by which strips I can read un assisted, which need a dictionary for most of the action, and the ones I just can't cope with.

Still, I am learning a good series of insults and swearwords. Here's one for your collection, English in origen, but lovingly translated.

'Espero que tu proxima mierda sea un erizo.'

Hope you get more fishing in in the next 8 months than I will......

    Cheers, bil

grazza, the outside edges of the breakwaters are ok, watch where the locals fish.quite often there´s
more people fishing at night than during the day.
that area is very "lively" at the weekends, with hundreds of very scanitly dressed women dancing in the little bars in front of the hotel melia.
best leave the rods (and the missus!) home those nights!
