Hi all, just got myself to a new 12ft "Surf" Devil Stick. The rod has the casting weight printed on it as 4-6oz.
My silly question is...
Can I use a 2oz weight on this rod? It's what I prefer to use with my 9'6" Uptider when using feathers for mackerel off the beach...
I only ask because I had a 13ft rod once, used it for spinning one afternoon and the tip snapped off (with all the whipping the spinner out I guess) so I'm wondering if there's such a thing as too little weight for a rod.
many thanks

it really wouldnt perform to its best with a 2oz lead on
look at picking up a cheap carp rod with a 2lb test curve
they will be suited better to 2oz
with a small fix spool and 12lb line should be idealHARD CORE HOUND ANGLER

Try it! It won't damage the rod.As Macky says though it probably wont cast too well as the power in a cast comes from getting the rod to compress or bend, if the weight is to light this will be difficult and it will be like casting with a broom handle. Get that cheap 2lb test curve rod and use braid, you cast further because its thinner and you feel every flick of a hooked fishes tail. you will never look back, I know I haven't.
Good Luck
