I have a dear old friend that said he used to use bacon for fishing and caught many a bass on it. I thought he was pulling my leg but lo and behold on another website they do say bacon for bait. Streaky is best because of the fat content. Anyone tried it ?

I haven't tried it while fishing with a rod and line but while on on holiday in Brixham last year we put some bacon in a crab net for the kids and I was amazed that quite a few mullett (mainy small around the 1-2lb mark) appeared and started to nudge the net to get at the bacon - I tried to pull the net up quickly but they were too quick for me!!

I think I'll give it a try this weekend with some cheap Tesco Value bacon in a cocktail with some squid - I'll let you know how I get on.

    Cheers!

Dont think I could bring myself to chuck it into the sea, much better in a sandwich with an egg.

The grill is on in my house before the bacon even gets through the door.

Bacon has accounted for more than one large bass at Eling Wharf allegedly. I suspect they acquire the taste from all the bacon that gets chucked in by kids crabbing.

That sounds quite nice. Would you serve that as a starter or main course?

Cut the rind off and use it as a replacement for white rag

Spot on.....it might be worth trying down the more popular parts of Cornwall too, as I've seen loads of bacon tossed into the sea at the end of a day on the beach.

yep there is a few marks on the dart where the mullet prefer bacon above anything else! have had some good sessions on bacon..

i guess the amount the kids throw in it becomes a almost natural food to the fish...
