Fishing Turkey

Anyone been fishing in Turkey from the shore? Going to Fethyie for a few weeks so any info would be appreciated.

In this area of Turkey the locals fish from boats without rods.
I'm not sure if they even have a tackle shop selling any bait there.
In principle you can try feathering with smaller feathers № 10 for scad and gar fish, Lure fishing with toby and other spoons for blue fish or gar fish and bonito, Light float fishing for mullet on bread or scad and gar fish on fish strips, bottom fishing with fish baits for all sorts of gobies and wired staff. Beware the poisonous dragon fish!
If you take you rods to the beach you may gather a crowd of onlookers, they are friendly.
Don't forget your factor 25 sunscreen, bottle of water and white hat!!!
The best fishing is early morning and late afternoon.

Thanks for the info sounds interesting, probably will take my whole kit with me as they will let me put my rod bag on the plane free under the new sporting goods scheme they now have, then I will have beachcaster, mullet rod etc at my disposal. Will probably pack some dried baits in my suitcase just in case I can't find any shops out there.

Can't wait to head off and catch some strange unusual species I have never seen before. Will watch out for the dragonfish!!

Just got back from Marmaris, nobody fishes the beaches until evening time when the "roasties" leave the water to settle down. The locals were catching smallish mullet on bread paste float fished, but never saw them catch anything sizeable, but they said they do get good fish when it gets dark, (bream & mullet). Went on a boat trip & when bread was thrown over at lunch time the water was full of small stuff feeding on it, then all of a sudden the water explodes as something comes up & grabs bread & anything else unfortunate enough not to get out of the way!
I would have loved to have had "Blue Skip" out there with me, there is potential there!

Thanks for the all the useful info, I am really looking forward to the trip now. I may try and hire a boat out for the day when I get out there, take the misses for a cruise around the islands and a have bit of a fish at the same time.

Vaughan, it certainly seems that the further away from the tourist beaches you go, the better the fishing is, or its evening & night fishing in the popular resorts. Seeing as nowhere seems to close, there's no reason why you shouldn't fish till midnight, then go out to eat & bop! Thats what the teenagers were doing, out until 0800 sleep on the beach under an umbrella, go back get showered & dressed, eat, then drink & bop unti 0800! It would have killed me, but those were the days, try "er indoors" with the fishing until midnight & see what she say's!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello vaughn, went a couple of times to kalkan not too far from were you are goin,if you get the chance have a visit, it has a cracking harbour lots of mullet, and other stuff resident, and regular visits by the bonito that come flyin in to have a feed its a gorgeous place and great place for a night out too. the market at fethyie is wonderful if i send you 20 squid will you bring me back a fake rolex i collect um

i more thing m8, the locals use chicken a lot for bait the gars like it and quite a few of other species, i used to ask the lads in a resteraunt for some on me way to the harbour, used to end up with loads, nothing is too much trouble for them.........
