Dexter Plugs

Does anyone here use dexter plugs? I was wondering what lures such as the easy walker, sp popper, wiggle stick and jedi rattler are like in comparison to the equivalent rapala's/yo-zuri's/teklon's as I hate using a plug in constant fear of losing it because of how much it cost!!

Most of the dexters come in at about £6, compared to £9+ for rapala's and other major brands, it could make quite a big difference if you were doing a lot of lure fishing (which I'm hoping to do next year) especially when most of my lure fishing is over rough-ish ground.

So my question is if anyone has any experience using dexter lures, what are their opinions on them? How do they cast? What is the action like in the water? Are the worth using or would you pay the extra for rapala's/yo-zuri's? And most importantly do they catch fish?! Cheers!

I'm sure I've seen Dexters a lot cheaper than that. Google them and I think you'll do a lot better.

I dont pay that much for em either, I do rate Dexters, the surface popper in macky colours is a fav.

I cry if I lose a lure, I have been known to sleep in the motor waiting for the tide to recede and reveal so I can search for it, but slept through and had to wait for the second tide ! LOL
If you are fretting about losing lures, you can buy a lure retriever, easy to make though.

The principle is a weighted tangle of snaggy yarn on a very strong line, that can be clipped onto the main line and slid to the snag, wiggled so the lure becomes snagged on the yarn, then yank the second line.

Another method that worked a treat on the river, was a disk of plastic with a slot in, and like a keyhole cover slid to close it, then let the current take it past the lure and use the force from the flow to lever the lure free.

I had taken to using a length of thin tubular foam or inline pike float laid flat, 4-5ft ( depending on lure and depth of mark ) from the lure to enable me to work it just off the bottom. A small bubble float ( oval are the best IMHO )

Or, just use 50lb braid for your mainline sal, so if you get snagged, you can tie it to the bag of your moter and heave it out with that.
Might have to re-sharpen your hooks mind..........

FOlks think I am mad when i wang out on 50lb, when the 80lb comes out well ------- does work but not so good in windy conditions. Knots like the mother of all knots in the wind with lighter lures or if you dont feather the cast onto the water.
