Fly Fishing for Sharks
I wouldn't normally 'double post' but I suspect some of you may not look at the International forums and would consequently miss seeing these video clips - http://www.flyfishing-austria.at/big...fly_videos.htm - of anglers fishing for Spinner Sharks in shallow water off Palm Beach, some 70 miles north of Miami in Florida.
The first shows a run of literally 59 seconds - that's before the tippet pops. And the second shows some great 'barreling' leaps and then a frustrated shark trying to 'nail' a popper. It finally, in the last few frames, succeeds!

IGFA Rules
The IGFA for World Record claims make it really difficult. You're limited to a maximum of 12" of wire attached to at least 15" of class tippet - 22 (10kg) maximum, then the rest of your leader system. And it's usually the class tippet that abrades on the shark's skin!
I've only ever hooked the one, a Blacktip, on a Deceiver pattern off the Marquesas - Key West, Florida. It run 100 plus yards, jumped a couple of times and popped the tippet. Great fun whilst it lasted!
My friend though managed to beat a near 80lb Lemon Shark on that same day. It takes a lot of manoeuvring of the skiff to keep that tippet away from its skin.
