    Question Baitcasting reels?

Can anyone explain the reason for bait casting reels.

I mean are they any better than a FS for spinning or are they just a multiplier?

What is the difference between a Multiplier and a Bait caster?

Can they cast very light lures etc

Any advantages\disadvantages of getting one for spinning next summer?

Baitcaster is another name for multiplier. The smaller multipliers retain the name because they are still called that across the pond.

The advantage is that you can cast one handed, you press the spool release bar during the cast as opposed to pressing a freespool button and holding the spool with the thumb, or in the case of a FS reel, opening the bail arm and holding the line with the forefinger.

The best ones are mag braked and can be used with lines down to about 8lb, thus casting very light lures a long way, further than a FS reel in some cases if you compare the low profile ones to a 4000 size FS reel.

I'm on the lookout for one for lure/float fishing, the Shimano Callisto looks good and quite reasonably priced as well.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, swims like a duck and goes 'Quack' it's probably a duck. Or if you're into conspiracy theories it's a chicken.
