Fishing in North Cyprus
Hi, new to this site. I'm off to Kyrenia in North Cyprus from 1st August for 2 weeks. Has anyone any experience of this part of the world for fishing? Shore or boat? Is there any grouper or bass to be caught? Trying to decide what tackle to take - spinning or beachcasting. Have read Brand's comments on Cyprus and mullet etc. I can find no general info on the Internet to help with best location or boat hire.
Many thanks

I remember seeing the locals fishing from the harbour wall in Limassol. They were using long poles. Never saw anyone beachcasting as such. I was tempted to have a go, the poles were only about ten quid in the local shops, but my wife threatened to perform an impromptu surgical procedure if I did.
Not much help I know, but **** info is better than no info.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, swims like a duck and goes 'Quack' it's probably a duck. Or if you're into conspiracy theories it's a chicken.

Hi Richardp,
I went over to Kyrenia last year, take plenty of Sun cream, It will scorching! I personaly didn't have a chance to do any fishing, but there was a boat going out, so called deep sea fishing from the harbour. The advert for the boat mentioned catching tuna and shark. Also along the sea front by the Dome Hotel people were fishing with heavy beach rods. Judging bye the fish I seen being caught, I think you will probably be catching mainly mullet and small wrasse. Hire a jeep and go up to the northern tip of the island, the beaches are out of this world and in July totally deserted. I am sure the fishing will be untapped. Have a great time, I'm sure you will, the Turk cypriots are very freindly and helpful.
cheers Steve
