yes you can peter thain is very good with fixed spool reels
the main thing is to make sure the spool does not turn under the pressure of casting

...Too true you can! Screw the spool tight down, weight about level with the reel and make sure the bale arm is not going to flip over.
Give it a whack!

Hi Black Beard,
Is the rod your casting with in the picture rung for a mulitiplier as it seems to have more rings on than most f/spool rods of late or do you cast some multi rods with a fixed spool reel and find they work ok. Can you recommend an off the shelf multiplier beachcaster that will cast pretty good with a fixed spool as I have found that some fixed spool rods seem to have a much tamer blank than their equivalent multi versions.

Doesn't the line go into your fingers when using this method with a FS reel? That happens to me all the time, and that is just normal casting!
