Im not sure how far I can cast, although I will make a point of going out and measuring a cast with plain lead and 0.35 line.

FF, just get down to an SSA event (next one is the 28th jan) near Stranraer!

My pb is 203yrds exactly with no wind casting 150g. Fishing it is way less but it is totally different - different reels, lines, techniques and of course baited rigs. Never really though about it that much when fishing but probably somehwere around 130 maybe more on a good day although a barely ever need to hit it that far, for example - when I'm wrasse fishing using a 9ft spinning rod the line is coming back in towards the rocks so probably about 2ft out lol

i can cast around 200 230 with a plain lead but with a baited rig and gripper i would say around 150 as i dont realy need to put it any further than that when fishing some time only need a 60yd lob or 40 when fishing the piers

my furthest was about 175 (just a bit more) but was a long time ago
More to the point:-
how often do you have to cast your maximum (with bait) on the beach ?
how often are you unable to cast far enough (but perhaps could if you got tuition) ?
how often do you cast too far (and know it) ?
There's a local mark where (at low tide, on a Spring) more than 10 yds is too far. I couldn't stop myself casting 40+ , so in the end I took a roach pole down as well as a beach rod. I eventually learnt to just swing it out when required, but in the meantime the roach pole caught more than the rod (at that stage of the tide)
Come to think of it the most important question of all is
how often do you know (or find out, for the day) just how far to cast ?

Troon!!
Used google earth to measure the distance to the breakwater from Troon pier. It's 96yards and I could hit that nae bother with six feathers and a fixed spool on a ten pound rod fifteen years ago.....would love to have a go over grass with ma fancy modern gear.....130?

about three years ago i ( laboriousley ) measured my line and put 1 mark at 100 yds 2 at 110 yds ect , and on my best cast of the day it went just over the 160 yd mark ( i used a felt tip marker ),
my casting has got better over the three years but i dont know how far i can cast now,
to reach the second gully at clevelys in blackpool , you need at least the 160 yd cast on calm days when there's nothing doing in the close in gully, ( pulled me out the sh-t a few times that
)
