a Uni Tech (or "Brighton" or "Hi Inertia" cast) will still help a complete beginner to get good distance quickly (more quickly and easily than O.T.G.) ,
provided he has a good grip on the spool and the rod is not very soft-tipped
and the reel has good cast controls (like the mag reels)

but we're assuming he means 'for a beginner to get distance with minimum trouble'

maybe he really means 'for a beginner to get 50 yards with a very, very soft bait' or something like that ?

and if he has a long, floppy rod then an overhead thump will do well..... not likely type of rod for Tyne & Wear, though

    uni tech

when advising on uni tech it would be advisable to mention any hazards involved
keegy,s idea is the best way to teach a newbie, if taught right, it will put his arms ect ln the correct position to progress to pendilum casting later, that is of course if he wants to
you can fool some of the people, some of the time. but a fool never fools anyone.

I didn't realize the lad was a complete beginner, i thought perhaps he had been using a Fixed spool and had just changed over to a multiplier.

As a beginner, i would suggest lessons would be the best starting point.
