my legs are WET
Been reading this part of the FORUM and i am WETTING myself there is always that posts a gem.
How far can you cast ..
there are some beauties ..
Its not how far in fishing it can you get to where the fish are feeding.
Casting is a tool to use when needed ie
If there is a gulley at 150yds and the fish feed there then you need the 150yd cast with bait its not how far you can cast as you may not be any where near the fish so its placeing your bait into a fish holding spot.
BUT if its casting over grass for max yards then this is a differant game .
Max yards with just a lead is just that
a long cast on grass will make a better cast with baited hooks but you still have to hit that fish holding spot if it be 20yds or 200yds
know your mark and hit it with bait...MONGREL REELS RULE

Basically distance casting isnt always necesarry.I LIVE by this rule when fishing and rarely put it more than a 50yd lob.

yes you are right, its not how far you cast, its where the fish are feeding, however, it helps a fair bit if you can cast 200+ yards because it opens up alot more options. If you have one person who can only cast say..... 80 yards, and the fish are feeding at 150 yards, then he wont catch anything, but if you have anuther person who can cast 200+ yards then he can cast within that range where ever the fish are feeding, so it opens up alot more options, and more chance of catchin a fish

Long casting, Short casting, the argument goes on and on.
Surely this all depend on WHERE you are located. Most venues local to me, the distant casters will 75% of the time come out on top and the short lobbers will struggle to catch fish, they can't reach them. = no fish and they blank.
BUTnow and again when there are plenty of fish around, the lobbers will get lucky and a 20-50 yard cast can pay off. Great they catch a few fish, but so does the Distance caster, because they can drop in closer whenever needed.
Hence, ON OUR COAST, the sea angler with the ability to throw a lead to the horizon, 90% of the time will come off on top.Micky
