What casting technique will get me furthest with practice?
i need a good casting technique for a newbie which will get a good 20 - 40 yrds with minimal effort, well at least as little effort as possible

Off The Ground or OTG (but the forum wouldn't let me post it as it was too short)

What set up are you using matey ?
rod, reel, line, rigs, shockleader and species targeting.
40lb line straight through isnt going to cast so well, but on many occasions the fish are closer than you expect as a little 8 year old girl found out when she bagged a 6lb bass under her dads feet on a hand line ! LOLKnow how to prevent sagging?
Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.
Website dealing with yet another flood we suffered, thanks to all for the assistance.

well um i use a fixed spool normally a fire bird godfather shockleader sometimes and pennel rig or pully rig depending on what my mate lets me use. soon i will be buyin a rod though so it might change in a few weeks maybe a few days even.

if you really mean 20-40 yards, any technique at all will do it.
If you'll be looking to increase (a lot) at a later date, then OTG - provided you can lay your baited trace (well, at least the lead) down is a good starting point.
