Flounder roe

Just had some flounder for tea that i caught in dec. I also shallow fried the ample roe that was in the fish.
I have to say it was just delicious, superb in fact. Does anybody else eat flounder roe or tried it ?.
Not tried any roe from any other fish, although i cant remember coming across any (apart from cod of course which is also rather nice).

I find that the flounder from my local beach are full of roe in winter(fish from a pound upwards).
Would be interested to hear anybodys thoughts on this as my other half thinks i,m some sort of seal or something.lol.

Good point sir- I do return most of my fish and only keep a select few. I think its important to catch and release , i hope i dont upset anyone on the forum with this subject....

Its this time of year the flat fish breed, nice and tasty i do agree but cath them and set them free.

It would be hard to tell if the fish has spawn or not in them unless you killed them, even if it is spawning time plenty of them will be males.

NOT AT ALL YOU CAN NORMALLY TELL IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR.

A few for the pot isn't going to make any difference, especially flounders. As a matter of interest......what did it taste like??

caught a few nice whiting recently, they had some roe, very tasty indeed, it was a staple food when i was a nipper, usually herring roe on toast, but any will do, including beluga.

Hi again guys - flounder roe tasted a bit like cod roe but sweeter i would say.

I know some people may take a dark view of eating fish eggs but i can honestly say that i dont think 4 or 5 fish over a period of 1 year put aside for the pot would make a huge dent in the population(and not all have roe by the way).

As i said before i put a lot of fish back and only keep the odd decent sized one.

On another note: how many cod anglers up and down the country keep cod over the mature mating size . think about all that roe in the female fish

Dont get me wrong guys i am well aware of declining stocks in all species and like to do my bit when it comes to conservation, but i do think everyone has a right to take home the odd fish.
I take on board what was said about knowing when a fish has roe-i would say that you can tell sometimes but not always.
