Reel up or down the rod?
Probably stale thread but I`m new to the forum so would like views on reel position on the rod for casting, I don`t mean tournament, not interested, too old but general beach casting. I do favour the fact that my right arm is more powerful than my left and would be put to better use in developing the cast rather than thumbing the reel but whats the comfort like for reeling in a decent fish?
I see so many reels situated down the butt these days so -- is it the best position?
Forget it, Sorry, just seen the same question further down the page. Answers my question fine.Last edited by groveller; 13-02-2007 at 19:51.

As you said, a stale thread, done to death.
Reel up or Reel down, makes no difference whatsoever to the cast. It all a matter of personal choice.

Agree with Mister Flu Medicine, It gives the rod so much more feel you can really feel the compression as you load the rod thru the cast, also i feel it balaces the whole set up letting you feel more, I have been an up the butt man haha all jokes done to death before you reply, i have been an up the rod butt guy for well! ever since i started fishing bout 4 i think! once trying down the butt one day i have never gone back i immediatly felt the differrence i really felt i was using the rod more efficiently and loading it properly! its hard to explain! Try It! See what you prefer its never wrong or right, Many people for sure do it to look cool and go with the elite gang but dont be a sheep do and practice the way you feel most at home with. Up the butt has its situations tho and i will chop and change were i see fit for example theres no use when fishing close in to use a reel down the butt i deem down the butt purely a distance set up, But close in bassing its the bass rod sinario so out come the fixed reel seat bass rods!
Hope this helped a bit! dont let anyone take the **** tho if you like it up the Butt everyones different!
JimGive any Fish a chance and it will Scrap!
