Italy
Offshore, particularly on the Adriatic (east coast) side they normally target small Bluefin Tuna and Amberjack, plus smaller tuna and occasional Swordfish. Blue sharks and occasional Threshers also show up.
But I suspect, given that it sounds a family holiday, you're probably referring to shore fishing? If so could I suggest that you post to the English forum on MedFlyFish. It's essentially a saltwater fly fishing web site but the administrator is particularly helpful as is a chap who posts under the nom de plume of 'MaxBuzz'. 'Max' (Massimo) is actually a Welshman of Italian descent! In your posting it's probably worth being more specific than 'southern Italy', they'll then point you in the right direction.
