Ardglass
Hello all.
Headed to Ardglass for first time on Saturday. Slight wind from NW and headed down to ST. Johns point. Got a few kelp Cod and bits and bobs but nothing massive. Wind got up a little from NE so we headed back towards harbour and then went North a little and got into a few more Cod. Stacks of mackeral about and a few nice wrasse as well. Big god damn seal took two fish on the way up then swung his tail round and gave me a soaking as well. Couldn't get away from him so fed him the rest of our mackeral (about 20-30) then headed for home to find the blinkin' slip dried out. Ah well, went for a chinkers and back to slip a few hours later and somewhat wiser for again.
Am I best to head north out of harbour or south to St. Johns point? Most boats seemed to head North.

It depends what you after and the size of boat your in, down toward St johns point and on into Dundrum bay is quite good for codling/ling/coalfish/pollock the majority or codling are small but there is the odd decent one, same for pollock and coalfish, lots of small fish tight onto the point.
Needless to say at this time of year the mackerel are virtually everywhere
If you head north there is again chance of codling until you get up toward Gunns Island and the mouth of Strangford Lough with some nice pollock at the move of the lough over wrecks and reefs, 6-10lb pollock pulled out of there quite often.
Tides are very fast up toward mouth of the lough and can be quite hairy in a southerly, best left to calm days.
Was it the marina slip or the one at the harbour you launched from?
