Peeler crab?
Peeler crab, never seen one -yet.
How do you tell if it is about to peel, has just peeled or is just thinking about it?

Grab the second from last leg, you don't want to grab the last one as they use those to swim, pull the leg off at the last joint and if it slides off and reveals a new soft leg underneath then it is ready to peel, if it pulls off and just reveals a white sinew then it's not ready. You will also see a hairline crack along the side of the crab and if it's already popping you'll see that the shell is lifting from the back.

Spot on EoinMag you can tell if as peeled because the crab will be like jelly if you pick it up.

Thanks for that. Feel a bit sorry for the crabs I 'inspect'. Your not pulling my leg! Cheers, Tony O-P.
