    Fox travel rod differences....

To remove this advert please register for a free account

Hi folks... I'm determined to buy one of those fox travel rods for tarpon and the likes for my Cuba trips.... Does anyone know the difference between
    1) tarpon trek spin
    2) tarpon trek spin cast
    3) sailfish trek spin

Apart from a few ounces here or there I can't seem to find any info on their differences.... I'll be using it for slinging poppers too but the popper trek At 350 pounds is too much for me...
    Any input welcome folks.....

Get the Daiwa Global Spin, 60lb cobia landed on one, might be a bit long as only 2 piece, awesome rod though.

The two tarpon rods are pretty much the same blank (if not identical) but the spin is for fixed spool use and the spin cast for multiplier use.

The Sailfish spin XT is rated for 20 - 50lb lines.
The sailfish trek spin is 4 piece, 8ft (tarpon trek is 5 piece, 7ft) with recommended line ratings of between 12 and 35lb (tarpon trek 20 & 50lb).

I used the Tarpon trek spin on a recent trip and landed tarpon up to around 130lb and found it a joy to use - you would never know it was a 5 piece travel rod.

It will chuck a 4oz popper (and work it) with ease, so I'm not sure why a Trek popper costs £350 as I bought my Tarpon trek spin from a tackle dealer in Luton for £170.

Good value for money and the heavy popping rod / medium trolling rod / livebait rod that I've been looking for for years.

All the specs for complete Trek range is here - http://www.foxsportfishing.com/catal...ue=6&section=1

    Cheers
    Steve

yes- intersted to hear how you get on Mark
I bought the bonefish for light spinning - very pleased so far - thinking up to 20 lb fish
Dave what size is your Stella in the pic? 5000?
I plan to use my 4000 with the bonefish- a bit of overkill, but it does balance well as a lighter model- means I have loads of braid for a long run on a bigger fish
    ........shut up and fish................

That's actually my boat partner in the photo, not me.

He owns a tarpon trek too and the Stella on his rod is a 20000

I used a Stella 10000 on my tarpon trek and a 6000 on my Permit trek

A 4000 on the bonefish rod would be ideal.

    Tight lines

I'm taking a Fox Sail Trek (the light 15-35lb version) to Dom Rep tomorrow, and a Daiwa Tment Global too. The Fox feels like a nicely balanced piece of kit and I hope to run into something to give it a tryout. I know exactly where the breaking-point is on the Tournament Global - it can't handle 350lb sharks! Ask the Dabler after he lent me his nice new one and I (and my toothy friend) broke the last foot off the tip, thereby converting it into an awesome heavy rod!
