Anyone know how Portsmouth is fihsing at the moment? When are the best times/states of tide/sizes of tide and what baits are proving most effective?

    hi jackson,
around portsmouth/hayling/selsey area i think the most important thing is darkness. i don't think the tides matter as much if it is dark.there should be some big bass still about and also the chance of codling and whiting.

Cheers for that Dicky, I have had a bit of a look on the web at the solent fishing guide, but not getting much info about baits. What would you recommend?

depends what you want to catch.
for bass either whole squid, macky head and guts or a small livebait.
for cod/whiting a lug and squid cocktail.peeler crab is always a good choice but expensive if you can't collect you're own

Bass and cod are the target, or anything else big which might be taking. I think I will fish this Friday night then. Probably from just before low tide upwards. Mackerel and Squid will have to suffice, or are there any good bait shops near to the Clarence beach (good venue or are there better?) area? Again, thank you very much for your advice, Dicky.
