South Africa
Anyone got advice on what the best option for tackle for SA is? I'm going in August and can only really stretch to taking one outfit.
Question is...what kind of outfit would give me the most options?
HELP?

As before were and what have you in mind ? boat or beach been ther plenty of times, very good fishing from both, last time i was there you were able to buy most tackle from shops (secondhand) very cheep as the exchange rate is quite good,
if you are able to get on a charter boat its great fishing

Hi [and thanks for bothering to reply]
we're starting off in Cape Town for a week then bouncing down the coast, eastward, for a further two. Some of the time we'll be further inland so I'm not sure if, given that I will only have room for one outfit, whether to go for a heavy spinning outfit, fly, perhaps light pike or whatever. I'm really trying to identify what kit will give me the most flexibility.
Having said that, if I manage to fit in a sea charter I'll hire what i need.

Right,
Per fisherman you will need / or I would take : 1 or 2 surf casters, 25 - 40lb line. 1 Heavy duty spinning rod. Take all the hooks and accessories, rapalas, spinners and so on. Bets advice though is ask in the local fishing shops in S.A - there are loads.
Hire a ski boat, these are fun getting in and out of the breakwater and a good guide should put you onto fish, they will provide their own tackle.

South Africa
Hi Nobby
I suspect from your post that you're an all round angler.
As well as the area's saltwater potential there are, of course, inland opportunities to fish for species like Carp, Bass and Catfish and, up in the mountains, even Trout.
It may not be the best of portal sites but this one - http://www.ananzi.co.za/catalog/Spor...ing/index.html - may give you a useful starting point. Or there's even this specialist Carp fishing site - http://www.geocities.com/carpfishingextreme/.
As well as this forum you can also find informative posts on the respective forum on the http://www.tripadvisor.com site.
Although it's going to be a tad on the expensive site there is a chap, Trail Whitthun, who operates out of Struisbaai. (Forgive me if my geography's a bit awry!) He's essentially a commercial skipper who will take out charters. Our Club members who have fished with him in the past, although usually earlier in the year - often March, have had some enormous Sharks and Rays and, further offshore, Yellowfin Tuna and Marlin. Let me know if it's of any interest and I'll forward his contact details.

PanamaJack
thanks for the advice. I'll have to study the map i think and see if we're going to end up near Struisbaai [I'll have to find it first!]. I hadn't realised there were opportunities for "coarse" fishing so that's something else to throw into the equation.
thanks again

Maywood
thanks for the offer but I don't think we'll be travelling as far as east London. If we do then expect to here from me.
thanks again
Nobby
