    seabrook fishing report

well went down the market on sunday and got a few traces to use. we went down to the local tackle shop on monday morning and purchased some more tackle and the bait:

    2 1/2 score black lug
    1/2 score rag

had to go to the fish monger to get a box of squid as he'd run out.

decided to try a bit of bait digging, so we went down the warren and dug a few small rag and about 30 commons.

after that we went home and got all our gear ready for the nights fishing ahead of us. managed to get everything we thought we'd need.

set off about half 5 so we'd be fishing by about 6ish. high tide was about 1:30 - 2:00 i think. the idea was to fish it all the way up and then an hour after and then go to sleep.

we unloaded all our gear from the car and made a few trips to our fishing destination - right behind what used to be little chef.

as soon as we got there we realised we'd forgotten sticky tape to attach the glow lights to our tips, but our mood was not yet dampened as there was a shop within walking distance. we then realised that my friend had left his tripod at home so we could not fish two rods each.

anyway we got rigged up with just a simple 3 hook rig. i started with the commons we dug and cast out. we then proceeded in setting the campsite up.

after that we started fishing properly only to be greeted by one of our friends. she got quite bored as soon as she got there. my dad and brother then came down and so did another friend.

after it was dark i started using a third of a black lug on each hook. this resulted in the first fish of the night, a small whiting.

after a few more casts my reel broke. the bail arm snapped off because it was so corroded. as i was planning to use two rods i already had one set up so i proceeded in using that one. anyway a quick trip to the shop and i purchased some sticky tape to try and repair it. i managed to kinda fix it but i didnt use it as it would break.

after everyone had left apart from me and my mate we started concentrating on the rod tips. my mate lost about 5 traces due to a snag. at about 11 both rods started to get regular bites and we managed to hook a furhter 5 whiting before it went quiet again. my mate lost another trace so he decided to go in the tent. i fished for about an hour and a half and i decided i'd also had enough.

so i just used some spare bits of worm i found lying around. this included the tail of a rag worm and a piece of squid. i put that on a hook and cast out. i then went to put all the stuff in the tackle tent, i.e boxes bait etc. as i reeled in for the last time i felt i had a fish and it turned out to be a small smooth hound about 12 inches long. btw thats my favorite fish i've caught this year.

i decided to have another cast but didnt even get a bite so i went to sleep.

my mate that had been down the night before came and woke us up at about 8 'o' clock, just before he caught the bus to school, anyway we went back to sleep and got up about 10 after it had been raining, started fishing and had nothing. after another couple of hours we decided enough was enough and that we'd go. my mate reeled in for the last time and he had a plaice. so obviously we had another cast each but it produced nothing.

all in all it was an alrite night with me getting a new species. we did have a few downers but we overcame them.
